The Community Empowerment Trust started with a group of young activists 6 years ago. The team consists of social workers, architects, legal advisors, professors, psychologists, and health care professionals from Delhi belonging to a variety of gender identities. The journey started with the celebration of Transgender Day on 24th April 2017. The last few years have been a journey of learning, unlearning and relearning. In all these years we have always strived to keep our ear to the ground and learn from the community about how they can transform their lives and bring this learning into practise by being an active partner in this process of change.
Our driving force has been the idea of inclusion of all communities which have been subjected to socio-economic discrimination. Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, women, minorities of all kinds- sexual (LGBT), religious, linguistic and all those that have been on the margins, have been the focus of our attention. We firmly believe that when the last person in the queue can access and avail the fruits of development; our society can be termed equitable. Mr Deepchandra (our chairperson) was awarded the Bharat Gaurav Award and Shan-e-Samaj National Award for this continuous engagement of community welfare. The trust has recieved recognition and appreciation from numerous bureaucrats. What gives us strength is our more than 9 years of learning and a very strong volunteer base, drawn from the deprived section of society.
The trust was registered on 17 May 2017 with the Government of New Delhi for continuously working towards the welfare of the transgender society.
